Our Favorite Washington DC Events This Summer
July 1, 2017 – As a new community focused on outdoors, arts and creativity, we love everything the summertime represents. It's a wonderful season to meet others in the community, explore what makes DC unique and to appreciate the talent just outside our Fort Totten doorstep. If you're like us, you're on the continual search to uncover local events and festivals that celebrate the thriving creative community Washington DC offers. To make your job easier, we rounded up our favorite DC Summer 2017 events.1. A Capitol Fourth | July 4, 2017
No DC summer festival list is complete without at least a mention of July 4th. And as the Nation's capital city, we celebrate Independence Day exactly like nowhere else. Spend your evening on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, enjoying the A Capitol Fourth hosted by John Stamos, comprised of free concert performances from of patriotic favorites, some of your favorite singers, and more, ending in a spectacular fireworks display on the National Mall!
2. DC Hip-Hop Theater Festival: Dance Place | July 6-13, 2017
One of our missions at The Modern at Art Place is to support our local artists and creative community. We can think of no better way than by festivals that share our vision, such as Dance Place and Hi-ARTS DC Hip-Hop Theater Festival. Now in its 17th year, the event brings Hip-Hop to life through stories, people, music, dance and more.
3. Capital Fringe Festival | July 6-30, 2017
The almost month-long quirky arts and music festival takes place in various venues around DC Over 129 different performance groups span across theater, dance, music, poetry and more. Festival perks include free music in the courtyard and food and drinks from the Fringe Arts Bar in the festival's home base, Logan Fringe Arts Space.
4. Brew at the Zoo | July 20, 2017
If you haven't yet visited one of our city's best treasures, Smithsonian's National Zoo, now's your chance. Even if you have, the annual Brew at the Zoo takes it to a whole new level. Spend an evening tasting beers from over 70 breweries, listening to live music, seeing exotic animals and chowing down on fare from local food trucks. The best part? All admissions proceeds benefit the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute's mission to save species.
