Fort Totten Park

Fort Totten was once a location of defense for the Union Army during the Civil Wars. Today Fort Totten Park acts as a Civil War memorial and is managed by the National Park Service. This wooded park is great for a picnic or stroll with you leashed pet. You’ll even be able to learn more about Fort Totten’s Civil War history along the way. Walk here from The Modern DC in just 15 minutes.


Rock Creek

With just a 15-minute bike ride from The Modern DC, you can enjoy some fresh air at this DC National Park. You’ll be surprised just how much there is to do at Rock Creek outside of hiking the 32 miles of trails and paths. You can visit the park’s planetarium, go on a ranger-led hike, go horse back riding, bike, explore the many Civil War fortifications, mills, colonial houses, and more. 


Chillum Community Park

This community park near The Modern DC is perfect for getting the whole family moving. From the playground to the basketball courts, there’s fun for all ages. You can also bring a picnic or run around the soccer field. You can even hop on the Anacostia Tributary Trail System. Ride your bike her in 10-15 minutes from The Modern DC.


Colmar Manor Community Park

If you’re looking for a place to get away from all of the hustle and bustle of the city, head to Colmar Manor Community Park. It’s perfect for bikers, runners and families. Enjoy walks along the Anacostia River, play basketball, tennis or baseball, or play around on the playground. Don’t forget to pack a picnic. Drive here from The Modern DC within 15-20 minutes.
